APPG letter to the editor published in the British Medical Journal (22 Jan 2008)
On the 22nd of January, the British Medical Journal (BMJ) published a letter to the editor from the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Pneumococcal Disease Prevention in the Developing World, Dr Des Turner MP and fellow Group member, Dr Richard Taylor MP in response to an article concerning the treatment of severe pneumonia in children under five from the developing world.
In their letter, Dr Turner and Dr Taylor explained the role of the APPG and emphasised the importance of accelerating the availability of vaccines to the developing world through innovative funding mechanisms such as the Advanced Market Commitment (AMC).
They also outline the lifesaving work of GAVI's PneumoADIP, whose mission is to improve child survival and health by accelerating the evaluation of and access to new, lifesaving pneumococcal vaccines for the world's children.
